Humbuckers use two coils whereas the p90 pickup uses just one coil but it doesnt stop there. Am i just lucky or is this double coil selection basically doing what a humbucker coil does.
They have the same rectangular design but only house the one pole piece essentially p90s are single coil pickups.

Double coil pickup vs humbucker. The double coil humbucker pickup once this coil arrangement idea took hold the next logical step was to combine the regular coil and the reversed coil into one noise cancelling pickup and this double coil design became known as the humbucker. Characterised by their gritty dirty nature p90s make for something of a tonal bridge between single coils and humbuckers. The originator historically speaking the single coil came first since it was invented in the mid 1920s.
Single coil pickups tend to have brighter crisper tone. Humbucker vs two single coils. Almost all double coil pickups are humbuckers though they are sometimes wired to provide the option of humbucking and non humbucking operation.

Choosing the right pickups for the tone you want doesnt need to be hard work. The main significant difference that distinguishes the humbucker from the single coil is the fact that the former aka the double coil simply use two combined single coil pickups. Comparitively humbuckers typically have what guitarists describe as a thicker sound.
Theyre built and sound like a single coil only louder because there are two transmuters to pick up the strings vibrations rather than one. Double coils are literally just two single coils right next to each other. The geometry of the configuration of the coils as well as the arrangement of the magnets is entirely different too.
Double coil pickups are different than humbuckers. Due to the differentiation in the setup of the coils and magnets users will be able to hear differences in tonal qualities.
